This year, your child will participate in a variety of exciting projects that will challenge them to think critically, collaborate with peers, and apply their knowledge in innovative ways. Here are some of the major projects your child will be working on:

6th Grade Highlights:

Catapult Construction: Students will design and build their own catapults, learning about forces, angles, and energy. This project not only ties in engineering concepts but also provides an excellent opportunity for teamwork and iterative design as students test and refine their creations.

Marble Mazes: Students will design and construct intricate marble mazes, exploring principles of design, gravity, and problem-solving as they create paths for marbles to navigate through.

7th Grade Highlights:

3D Plant or Animal Cell Modeling: In this project, students will dive deep into biology by designing and printing a 3D model of a plant or animal cell. They’ll learn about cell structure and function while honing their skills in 3D modeling—a perfect blend of science and technology.

Types of Gardens Exploration: Students will explore various gardening systems, including traditional soil-based methods and advanced tower gardens. They will compare the effectiveness of each method and gain hands-on experience with sustainable agricultural practices.

8th Grade Highlights:

Tiny House Challenge: Students will work in teams to design and build a model tiny house, integrating concepts from engineering, design, and architecture. This project challenges them to think about space efficiency, sustainability, and creative problem-solving, culminating in a complete, detailed model.

Fragrance Lab: This project combines chemistry and creativity as students learn about the science of scent. They’ll create their own custom fragrances, exploring how different scents interact and how fragrances are formulated. It’s a unique way to connect science with real-world applications.

Our Unique Hydroponics/Aeroponics Program

One of the highlights of our STEM program at Richview is our innovative Hydroponics and Aeroponics systems. This program is unique to our school and offers students hands-on experience in advanced plant-growing techniques. In this program, students will learn how to grow plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water. They will compare these methods to traditional gardening and explore their potential for sustainable agriculture, particularly in urban environments. This program not only teaches the science behind plant growth but also encourages students to think about the future of food production and sustainability.
