My wife and I have seven children. I retired from the Air Force before becoming a teacher and I love what I do. At home, we spend most of our time outside riding four wheelers, swimming, cutting and splitting wood, and digging ditches. I love drainage. I’m not in love with it, but I do love it a lot. All kinds – french drains, downspout drains, foundation drains, swales, etc. I love a good, heavy storm so I can go outside to victoriously admire all the water flowing out of my pipes away from my house, instead of into my basement. I could watch water transverse my swales all day long. The deafening claps of thunder with simultaneous flashes of lightning really create a beautiful setting for me to arrogantly and audibly kneel down into the mud, reach my hand to the drain to watch the water flow over it, and claim triumph as I softly whisper, ‘that’s a lot of water.’
