Mrs. McCarthy is a native of New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education (7-12) from Siena College where she was also the captain of her division one field hockey team. She obtained her Masters in English Education (5-12) and Special Education (5-12) from Manhattanville College. Mrs. McCarthy taught in New York for one year and coached field hockey as a head varsity coach for three years prior to arriving in Kentucky. In Louisville, she taught 6th grade Language Arts and Literature for one year, also winning a field hockey state championship. She then taught 7th grade Language Arts for two years at Richmond Hill Middle School in Richmond Hill, Georgia. She taught ninth grade pre-AP literature and composition at Columbus High School in Columbus, GA and is now teaching her second year at Richview. Mrs. McCarthy is married to Captain McCarthy, a graduate of the United States Military Academy. She also has two German Short-haired Pointers, Ruger and Jack!

  • The Stress for Success quiz will be an open text quiz.
  • Our next quiz will be February 28th!
  • The argumentative essay will be due Friday, February 15th. This is an adjustment from the original due date of Wednesday, February 13th. Though the due date changed, there will be no additional in-class time provided.
  • The Tell-Tale Heart mock trial will be due at the end of class Friday, February 8th.
  • The Module C Unit 1 exam will be Monday, February 4th.
  • The narrative essay will be due at the end of class on February 1st. 
  • We will begin our digital blended learning unit on January 17th, 2019.

  • The Module B Unit 2 exam will take place on Thursday, December 13th
  • Students will need headphones to take the FastBridge screener Friday, December 7th.
  • We will begin reading the play version of The Diary of Anne Frank next week. There are a lot of options for outside reading not limited to Night by Ellie Wiesel as well as the diary itself!
  • The Writing Benchmark will take place on Wednesday, November 28th and Thursday, November 29th.
  • The Module B Unit 1 exam will occur on Wednesday, November 14th. 
  • Flowers for Algernon quiz Friday, November 2nd!
  • There will be a quiz on sentence types on Tuesday, October 30th. Notes and practice problems can be found in the google classroom.
  • Module B Unit 1 Quiz Friday, October 19th. Argumentative essay due Wednesday, October 24th.
  • Module A Unit 2 Exam will be on Wednesday, October 3rd.
  • The Module A Unit 2 Quiz #2 will be this Friday, September 28th.
  • Student led conferences will be held on Thursday, September 20th from 4:30- 7:30pm. 8th grade teachers will be located in the auxiliary gym. 
  • Our next writer's workshop will begin next Wednesday, September 19th. We will be writing a narrative which will be due at the end of class Friday, the 21st. 
  • Students will be taking their Module A Unit 1 Exam on Wednesday, September 5th. To study, students should review their notes paired with completing the Module A Unit 1 Assessment Review.
  • The informational essay will be due at the end of class on Friday, 8/31/18. This assignment will count for 30 points and be listed in the gradebook as an assessment grade.
  • Next week we will complete our first writing workshop of the school year. Students will write an informational essay, due at the end of class Friday, August 31st.
  • Open House will be this Thursday, August 16th, from 5:00- 7:00 p.m.
  • Signed forms (the parent questionnaire and the student code of conduct) as well as the baggie assignment, are due Monday, August 13th.
