Mrs. McCarthy is a native of New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education (7-12) from Siena College where she was also the captain of her division one field hockey team. She obtained her Masters in English Education (5-12) and Special Education (5-12) from Manhattanville College. Mrs. McCarthy taught in New York for one year and coached field hockey as a head varsity coach for three years prior to arriving in Kentucky. In Louisville, she taught 6th grade Language Arts and Literature for one year, also winning a field hockey state championship. She then taught 7th grade Language Arts for two years at Richmond Hill Middle School in Richmond Hill, Georgia. She taught ninth grade pre-AP literature and composition at Columbus High School in Columbus, GA and is now teaching her second year at Richview. Mrs. McCarthy is married to Captain McCarthy, a graduate of the United States Military Academy. She also has two German Short-haired Pointers, Ruger and Jack!

  • The Writing Benchmark will take place on Wednesday, November 28th and Thursday, November 29th.
  • The Module B Unit 1 exam will occur on Wednesday, November 14th.

  • There will be a quiz on sentence types on Tuesday, October 30th. Notes and practice problems can be found in the google classroom.
  • Module B Unit 1 Quiz Friday, October 19th. Argumentative essay due Wednesday, October 24th.
  • Module A Unit 2 Exam will be on Wednesday, October 3rd.
  • The Module A Unit 2 Quiz #2 will be this Friday, September 28th.
  • Student led conferences will be held on Thursday, September 20th from 4:30- 7:30pm. 8th grade teachers will be located in the auxiliary gym. 
  • Our next writer's workshop will begin next Wednesday, September 19th. We will be writing a narrative which will be due at the end of class Friday, the 21st. 
  • Students will be taking their Module A Unit 1 Exam on Wednesday, September 5th. To study, students should review their notes paired with completing the Module A Unit 1 Assessment Review.
  • The informational essay will be due at the end of class on Friday, 8/31/18. This assignment will count for 30 points and be listed in the gradebook as an assessment grade.
  • Next week we will complete our first writing workshop of the school year. Students will write an informational essay, due at the end of class Friday, August 31st.
  • Open House will be this Thursday, August 16th, from 5:00- 7:00 p.m.
  • Signed forms (the parent questionnaire and the student code of conduct) as well as the baggie assignment, are due Monday, August 13th.
